What is a Photoshop plugin?
Plugins or add-ons that enhance the functionality of Photoshop are very important for any product photographer to make their image editing experience a little easier. In simpler terms, plugins are external programs that work in addition to Photoshop to create additional photo effects or help sped up the process that would be really difficult by only using Photoshop. Plugins can easily speed up your workflow, help fix critical errors, and take your photos to an artistic level that would be impossible to reach straight out of the camera.

Here are some of the best plugins for product photographers-
  1. Chameleon Adaptive Palette- This Photoshop plugin provides its users with a smart palette system that intelligently adapts the colors they choose and offers a wide range of strips with slight functions. It can offer palette variations or lock as a static palette. It is a plugin that is kind of ram-hungry but it should not put stress on your CPU. The price of this plugin is $16 and is very worth it in my opinion.
  2. BrushBox- At only $15 you can get a customized BrushBox where you can store your favorite brushes on Photoshop. It is very easy to lose yourself in the sea of brushes in Photoshop. What this plugin offers you is an organized tab where all your brushes are stored efficiently. You can color-code each section as you need and tag your favorite brushes. This might not feel like the most necessary plugin to many people but to product photographers, this saves a lot of time when you need to do a rush job and have to find a specific brush.
  3. Powtoon- You can get Powtoon for free and make your product photos into amazing animations to use on the website. The plugin lets you turn your designs into animated video content with one click. Choose to export all artboards or select artboards, then enhance your animated design with custom animation, stock footage, and images. Finally, add a soundtrack and export. You have a video showcasing your product now. This is amazing for eCommerce businesses who want a small product video created from their photo retouches.
  4. Luminar- Luminar is a bit on the costly side but trust me when I say this, it is worth emptying your pocket. It is like having a photo editor inside your photo editor. It is a focused tool that does an amazing job at making the most of your product images without any of the non-photography stuff that Photoshop includes. Everything is AI-controlled and you can do complex tasks with a simple click. You can get the plugin for only 59 euros and get started on a huge lineup of presets for you to use.
  5. Blow up 3- Finally, we have to Blow up 3. It costs around $79 but it allows the user to pin-sharp enlargements without compromising on quality. We all know product photos are all about quality at the low size. This plugin is perfect for that. The algorithm is more advanced than Photoshop and it allows the plugin to produce accurate images without artifacts for product photo retouching. The perfect tool for Product Photographers.
In conclusion, everything can be done in Photoshop without plugins but when you have a big order and are at a harsh deadline, that’s when these plugins really show you why these plugins are worth it. So, try it at your own risk.
